Technical part of the game
The creation of the game Furtbol included the following ideas:
The arrangement of the goals and the connecting walls between the goals are placed in a straight line, and the size of the walls may vary depending on the length of the field.
Each participant has his own goal, combining the functions of a field player and a goalkeeper. The task is to score goals against opponents like an attacker and, at the same time, defend one’s own goal like a goalkeeper. The dynamics of the game assume scoring goals into the opponents’ goals with the feet or other parts of the body (except the hands). Each player defends his own goal and may block shots with his hands only when inside his goalkeeper’s zone.
The aim of each player is victory. The winner of the game is the one who remains the last on the field, after all opponents have lost and been eliminated.
Another innovative idea is the multiplicity of goals, which are arranged in a straight line and alternate with solid walls (hereafter “walls”). The walls are necessary for equal distance between the players. Additional walls are fixed at the edges of the first and last goals in order to minimize the ball leaving the field.
To avoid unnecessary disputes and deliberate time-wasting, such concepts as:
- free kick,
- penalty,
- corner kick,
- throw-in,
- out,
- offside,
- are completely absent in this game.
Therefore, under such conditions, the events and the game itself proceed spectacularly and at a rapid pace.
The ball may be taken in the hands or blocked by a player only when the player is inside his goalkeeper’s zone.
The game can be played by a minimum of two participants and up to a fairly large number, for example, up to twenty or twenty-five people. However, for a more spectacular, interesting game, and for competitions, the optimal number is a balanced group of players. The number of goals is equal to the total number of players.
The field for Furtbol can be set in any flat place, either with grass (football pitch, green area) or with artificial surface, for example a basketball, volleyball, or other similar court with limited space, as well as in indoor sports halls.
Duration of the game. The game is played without interruption. The duration of the game is determined by the speed of scoring goals and the elimination of players (losers). The game ends when only the last player remains on the field.
Ball.Furtbol is played with a leather (or similar material) ball, spherical in shape, with a diameter of 68–70 cm and a weight of 410–450 g.
Goal.A goal is counted only if the ball has completely crossed the line between the goalposts. Players must not break the rules: scoring a goal with the hand is forbidden, even if the contact was accidental.
Ball in play and ball out of play. The ball is considered out of play if it has completely crossed (on the ground or in the air) the goal line (that is, the entire ball must be completely beyond the outer edge of the respective line) or if the referee stops the game. The ball is also out of play if it touches the referee and as a result enters the player’s goal. At all other times, the ball is in play.
Field for the game Furtbol. The playing field has the following dimensions:
- Width – 24 meters.
- Length – 20 meters.
Field markings. The markings are drawn with lines wide enough to be visible to players, referees, and spectators. The width of the lines for competitions must not exceed 12 cm. All lines must be of equal width.
Names of the field lines:
- Sideline.
- Goal line.
- Goalkeeper’s zone.
Starting line. The starting line is one meter long. It is placed parallel, twelve meters from the goal line, and in the middle between the sidelines.
Goals, goalkeeper’s zone, and dividing walls. The goals and dividing walls are placed along the longer side marking, which further represents the goalkeeper’s line.
Goal dimensions:
- internal height – 2 meters,
- internal width – 1.80 meters,
- vertical goalpost – 10 to 20 cm,
- crossbar – 10 to 20 cm.
All goals are fitted with nets. The goalkeeper’s zone is marked by a line one meter from the goal line, starting 30 cm to the right and left of the goalposts.
Wall dimensions:
- height – 2 meters,
- width – 2 meters.
The walls are fixed to the vertical posts of the goals. The goals and intermediate walls are placed consecutively in a straight line and connected to each other. For stability, supports are installed at the back. In front of the first and behind the last goal, additional walls are also installed to ensure equal playing conditions and to minimize the ball leaving the field.
Plan-scheme of the arrangement of goals and the sequence of alternating walls.Number of goals. The minimum number of goals conceded for elimination is five.
The maximum is ten.
The exact number is determined before the game, depending on the number of opponents.
Player equipment.Required in case of competitions.
According to the rules, each Furtbol player entering the field must be properly equipped.
The uniform consists of:
- jersey,
- shorts,
- leg guards,
- light gloves (optional, at the player’s discretion),
- socks covering the guards,
- football boots with studs or other sports shoes.
Injuries.A player who is injured during the game and is unable to continue must leave the field. Substitution is not provided.
Referee. The duties of the Furtbol referee are:
- to place the ball in the starting area,
- to start, stop, continue, and end the game with a whistle,
- to monitor compliance with the rules,
- to control the course of the match and game time,
- to penalize and remove players who break the rules,
- to record the score of goals for each player,
- to ensure compliance with the equipment standards of players and the ball,
- in case of injury, to provide the possibility for the player to leave the field,
- to ensure that no outsiders are present on the field,
- to provide the competent authorities with a report on the match, including information on all disciplinary measures against players and/or officials, as well as all other incidents before, during, or after the match (for competitions).
Assistant referees. The assistant referees act as sideline referees. Their task is to record violations and assist the main referee in making decisions.
Typical duties of the line referee:
- to record when the ball leaves the field,
- to record rule violations outside the main referee’s field of vision.
A player who deliberately uses his hand outside his penalty area or breaks the rules receives a yellow card, and after a second violation, he is removed from the field.
